After his shocking reveal trailer debuted at the Game Awards 2020 last week, Sephiroth, the silver-haired big bad of Final Fantasy VII, will join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on Dec. 22. Details on the villain’s introduction to the fighting game were revealed during a livestream hosted by the Smash Bros. director Masahiro Sakurai on Thursday afternoon.

Sephiroth’s moveset will include iconic attacks like Shadow Flare; his unique Winged Mode which activates depending on his current ranking within a fight; and Octaslash. Sephiroth’s Final Smash is Supernova, which sees him transform into the final boss form Safer Sephiroth before unleashing his attack.

Also announced was Sephiroth’s unique stage, the Northern Cave, which follows the same sequence as the final dungeon of Final Fantasy VII. New music coming with the stage (and also being added to the existing Midgar stage) include “Advent: One-Winged Angel” and remixes of “Aerith’s Theme” and “Cosmo Canyon.”

A “Sephiroth Challenge” mode has also been added to Smash Bros. Ultimate, available now, in which players can challenge the one-winged angel himself in battle and unlock the fighter early by defeating him.

Finally, the eighth round of Mii DLC costumes were also revealed. Coming to the game alongside Sephiroth are FFVII heroes Barret, Tifa and Aerith (in adorable Mii form), the Chocobo from nearly every Final Fantasy game and Geno from Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. Each costume can be purchased separately for $0.75.

Sephiroth’s inclusion in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was the first announcement made at last week’s Game Awards. He joins Steve from Minecraft and Min Min from Nintendo’s ARMS as downloadable fighters in Fighters Pass 2. Fighters Pass 1 includes Persona 5’s Joker, Dragon Quest’s Hero, Banjo and Kazooie, Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury and Byleth from Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
